We’ve been married just over 18 years and have 3 rough-and-tumble boys. I took a break from work to be a stay-at-home mom. I was grateful for the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom and extremely thankful my husband’s job allowed me to do so. And, though I loved being a SAHM, it wasn’t without its challenges. In fact, after our second child, I was hit hard by Postpartum Depression & Anxiety. It was a huge hurdle and took a lot of effort to work through. During my recovery, I joined an MLM business and reignited a part of myself that had felt lost. Like many, I burned out within a year or so and no longer found it enjoyable.

About the same time, and out of the blue, a dear friend and coworker from my past called to invite me to be part of her growing virtual assistant agency. It was perfect, and the idea of being able to work with her again was an offer I couldn’t refuse. Through that opportunity, I was able to dust off my business and customer service skills. I enjoyed working in the professional world again and was thrilled to be alleviating stress for other hard-working business owners. 

Along came our third child and about a year later, the pandemic hit, which led to my VA client discontinuing her services with the agency. Taking a break from VA work suited our new lifestyle now that I was navigating at-home schooling with my oldest. However, I still felt the desire to work and contribute to our family finances. Bookkeeping and System Management have been the perfect fit as they bring me joy to work, but also allow me the flexibility to focus on family.  

It is the perfect mix of my passions: helping people and numbers! I am filled with drive and passion as I truly enjoy all things bookkeeping.

Not only do I get to help small businesses get a handle on their finances, but I also have the privilege to help my fellow bookkeepers establish their workflows and systems through Hughes & Strong Consulting.  I started HSC with my business partner, Erica Hughes, to support and guide bookkeepers in their growth journey.

Aside from enthusiastically helping my clients and chasing after my kiddos, I love to do marathons. My ultimate goal is to complete one in every state!

My Story

I grew up in Charlotte, NC, and attended Appalachian State University, where I met my husband. After school, we moved back to Charlotte, where I was an account manager at a large printing company and my husband was a high school teacher. I then made a shift into non-profit fundraising work for many years, eventually becoming a local campaign coordinator for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Not long after, my husband made a career change into law and we moved to Virginia, where I shifted to work for the LLS Call Center as a recruitment coordinator. We moved back to the Raleigh area for my husband’s new job and began to grow our family.
